Appendix A: Phase Archives

This appendix contains archived documentation from completed project phases. These documents preserve the historical record of ProRT-IP's development journey.

Purpose

Phase archives serve several important functions:

  • Historical Reference - Understanding how features evolved
  • Decision Context - Why certain architectural choices were made
  • Lessons Learned - What worked and what didn't
  • Audit Trail - Complete development history

Archive Contents

Phase 4 Archive

Duration: September - October 2025

Phase 4 focused on performance optimization and advanced networking:

  • Zero-copy packet processing
  • NUMA-aware memory allocation
  • PCAPNG output format
  • Firewall evasion techniques
  • IPv6 foundation work
  • 1,166 tests at completion

Phase 5 Archive

Duration: October - November 2025

Phase 5 delivered advanced scanning features:

  • Complete IPv6 support (100%)
  • Service detection (85-90% accuracy)
  • Idle scan implementation
  • Rate limiting v3 (-1.8% overhead)
  • TLS certificate analysis
  • Plugin system (Lua 5.4)
  • 1,766 tests at completion

Phase 6 Archive

Duration: November 2025 - Present

Phase 6 introduces the TUI interface and network optimizations:

  • ratatui-based TUI framework
  • 60 FPS rendering capability
  • 4-tab dashboard system
  • Batch I/O integration
  • CDN IP deduplication
  • 2,151+ tests and growing

Document Organization

Each phase archive contains:

  1. Phase Summary - Goals, timeline, outcomes
  2. Sprint Reports - Detailed sprint-by-sprint progress
  3. Technical Decisions - Key architectural choices
  4. Metrics - Test counts, coverage, performance
  5. Lessons Learned - Insights for future development

Using the Archives

For New Contributors

Start with Phase 4 to understand the performance foundation, then review Phase 5 for feature implementation patterns.

For Maintainers

Reference archives when making changes that might affect legacy code or when investigating historical bugs.

For Users

Archives provide context for why certain features work the way they do and what limitations exist.
